Testimonial

Placement Profile

  • Program: CCIP
  • Primary GL: $2M / $4M / $4M
  • Lead Excess: $10M
  • Project: $207M data center tenant fit-out in VA
  • Shepherd Savings Partner: Procore

The client and the project

The insured is a general contractor that specializes in data center and mission-critical construction, and a repeat Shepherd client. This placement covers a $207M interior tenant fit-out for a major data center operator in Virginia.

The work spans six data halls across two floors. It includes electrical distribution, conveyance, water piping, installation of owner-furnished cooling and power equipment, security systems, and interior rework of drywall, ceilings and fire suppression.

How the broker brought it together

The submission came from a broker team that has worked with Shepherd on this contractor since 2025. The relationship started with the contractor’s practice program, where Shepherd wrote the excess in December 2025. In August 2026, Shepherd wrote a CCIP for another of the contractor’s data center projects.

When it came time for the broker to take this opportunity to market, the case for Shepherd wrote itself. Shepherd already knew the contractor’s operations, its safety culture and the scope of work on these projects. It also knew how the contractor uses technology as a loss control tool on its jobsites.

What Shepherd did on this placement

Shepherd wrote the Primary GL of $2M / $4M / $4M and the $10M Lead Excess above it.

The underwriting team reviewed the detailed submission, including the contractor’s safety manual, quality manual and site-specific safety program. The contractor maintains a general environmental health and safety plan, plus a site-specific electrical energization safety plan on every data center and mission-critical job. Because so much of its work is repeat data center construction, Shepherd treats the contractor as a data center specialist, and that gave Shepherd confidence in the risk.

The contractor is already enrolled in Shepherd Savings, and its Procore usage has been applied to every program it has with Shepherd, this one included. Shepherd stays closely engaged on that usage, with regular conversations with finance leadership and monthly program follow-ups.

The outcome

This is the contractor’s third program with Shepherd and its second data center CCIP in two months, all through the same broker team. More data center work is in the pipeline. Shepherd is set up to write each project with the same underwriting approach and continuity, and to keep rewarding the contractor’s use of jobsite technology through Shepherd Savings.
