Controlled Insurance Programs: OCIP & CCIP
Explore controlled insurance programs with Shepherd, including owner-controlled and contractor-controlled placements for commercial construction projects.
A coordinated approach to project casualty
Controlled Insurance Programs are part of Shepherd’s Primary Casualty capabilities. A project’s insurance structure can be discussed together with excess casualty and builder’s risk, allowing brokers to consider the placement as a whole.
An Owner-Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) is sponsored by the owner. A Contractor-Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) is sponsored by the contractor. The sponsor is a useful starting distinction; enrollment, covered operations, policy terms and project requirements determine how a particular program works.
Project and portfolio context
Shepherd’s customer stories include individual project placements and rolling programs. Describe the projects involved, the participating entities, the intended program period and the liability structure when discussing a placement. The underwriting team can review the account rather than assume that one wrap-up structure applies to every project.
Examples from the field
Read about a rolling CCIP program in Utah and Idaho, or explore the customer story library for project-specific placements. These describe individual accounts and do not establish terms or eligibility for another placement.
